PlayFusion partnership brings augmented reality capabilities to CryEngine

Enhanced Reality Engine is industry's "most feature-rich and performant AR technology," says Crytek CEO

In a deal that will bring multiplayer augmented reality capabilities to the CryEngine, Cambridge-based enhanced reality developer PlayFusion has announced a strategic partnership with Crytek.

The partnership will see PlayFusion license its Enhanced Reality Engine development platform to Crytek, adding it to CryEngine's capabilities.

Crytek founder and joint CEO Avni Yerli described the platform as "the industry's most feature-rich and performant AR technology".

Earlier this week, Crytek announced the new high-end CryEngine 5.5 which includes 260 improvements and full access to the editor source code.

PlayFusion, founded by games industry veterans, has developed leading artificial intelligence and robotics technologies in order to drive mixed reality development.

"Together, our proprietary technologies comprise the world's first comprehensive mixed reality platform-as-a-service spanning IoT hardware, computer vision, audio recognition, machine learning and deep data," said Crytek in a statement.

"PlayFusion enables entirely new and compelling experiences that are seamlessly connected, telemeterized, and dynamic on the fastest, most efficient, feature-rich platform on the mobile market today."
