PC Gamer Showdown

Monitor maker LG signed as sponsor for this summer's tournament series.

13/06/08 – Future, the UK’s leading games media company, is delighted to announce the support of LG Electronics, a global leader in consumer electronics, for its forthcoming PC Gamer Showdown LAN gaming event.

The LG partnership deal was brokered by Future’s Central Agency Team and marketing manager, Tom Acton, through media agency, Mindshare World. As headline sponsor, LG’s brand will feature prominently in adverts across Future’s market-leading portfolio of games magazines and websites in the lead up to the live finals in September.

Since the website opened early last month at www.pcgamershowdown.com, over 1000 gamers have signed on to take part in the inaugural PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG. A summer long series of online gaming tournament, the event culminates in a live finals weekend.

Throughout the summer, PC gamers will compete in online leagues over games including Call of Duty 4, Counterstrike and Team Fortress 2. Tournament winners will then battle it out against ticket buyers for the live event – which takes place on the weekend of September 27th and 28th at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.

With more than 500 gamers competing at the live event, only a lucky few will walk off with a slice of PC Gamer’s massive prize fund – totalling over £35k - including big cash prizes and electrical gear.

As part of the sponsorship deal, LG will also invite gamers to its ‘Lifestyle Lounge’ at the PC Gamer Showdown live event, where they can see the latest LG products, including LG’s range of Digital Fine Contrast ratio LCD monitors and mobile handsets, all of which boast superior style.

Future is also in talks with major games publishers to secure public premieres of upcoming PC and console titles at the event. PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG marks a further development in Future’s multi-platform games media portfolio – which attracts over 8.5m dedicated gamers a month – across print, online and live events.

“Since gamers are some of the most demanding and discerning of our customers, we had no doubt that we should be involved in this exciting event. We have developed monitors with gamers in mind, such as the W2252TQ, which when set to Movie Mode creates some of the most life-like images experienced on a PC. This event gives us a great opportunity to further showcase and engage gamers by demonstrating the design and technological capabilities of our award winning PC monitors,” said Fiona Landsberg, IT marketing manager, LG.

Publisher of PC Gamer, Richard Keith added: “We are delighted to welcome such a major consumer brand onboard as our sponsor in the event’s inaugural year. PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG will be the UK’s biggest ever LAN tournament, thanks to the strength and reach of Future’s games media. Future is able to communicate to a vast audience of enthusiast, games and technology buying young males and we look forward to working with all of our partners to ensure that PC Gamer Showdown in association with LG is a roaring success.”
