PAX West set to return as in-person event in September

Show will adhere to “detailed safety guidelines” in order to operate safely

PAX West 2021 will take place as a physical event this year, following last year's cancellation.

The event will take place between September 3 and September 6 at the Washington State Convention Centre, Seattle.

PAX has stated that the show will adhere to "detailed health and safety guidelines", which will be released ahead of the event.

"Since the last major North American on-location gaming event, PAX East 2020, ReedPop and Penny Arcade have cancelled six consecutive in-person shows, prioritising the health of the PAX community," the press release said.

"Show organisers are working with venue officials, local governments, and health authorities to determine event capacity, which will be reduced, and ensure a safe setting."

Like most events, PAX West and PAX Australia were cancelled last year amidst the pandemic, and were replaced by a digital event that spanned nine days.

2021's PAX East event was also cancelled back in March, and replaced with a three-day digital event taking place in July.

Passes for PAX West are expected to go on sale in the next couple of weeks, with applications for press and content creators to open up later this month.

Disclosure: PAX East is operated by ReedPop, the parent company of GamesIndustry.biz.
