Oculus VR destroyed evidence regarding Rift's creation, ZeniMax claims

"ZeniMax and id Software are the visionary developers of breakthrough VR technology"

ZeniMax Media has responded to Oculus VR's recent statement, asserting that the Facebook owned company stole trade secrets and destroyed evidence relating to the development of Oculus Rift.

Despite the size of the case, ZeniMax "welcomes the opportunity to present substantial evidence" of its claims to the Federal District Court in Dallas, Texas. In a statement released yesterday, the company made clear the severity of the allegations against "Facebook, Oculus and its management."

"That evidence includes the theft of trade secrets and highly confidential information, including computer code," the statement read. "ZeniMax will also present evidence of the Defendants' intentional destruction of evidence to cover up their wrongdoing. ZeniMax and id Software are the visionary developers of breakthrough VR technology, and look forward to the vindication of our claims."

This follows a statement from Oculus VR, issued on the same day the trial began last week, which was broadly dismissive of the suit's claims. It accused ZeniMax of "wasteful litigation," and attempting to "take credit for technology that it did not have the vision, expertise, or patience to build."

The trial is about to enter the second of an expected three weeks in court. ZeniMax Media's legal team intends to call Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to the stand as part of its case.
