The 2006 British Academy Video Game Awards will be sponsored by Nokia N-Gage and PC World.

The 2006 British Academy Video Game Awards will be sponsored by Nokia N-Gage and PC World.

The awards take place on October 5th and intend to recognise the most innovative, artistic and engaging games of the year.

PC World is sponsoring the award for Action and Adventure, while Nokia is sponsoring Gameplay, the only award voted for by members of the public.

âWe see BAFTA as a cultural reference point for what's great about the entertainment industries,â said Simon Etchells, head of strategic marketing for Nokia N-Gage.

âIt is a sign of maturity for the gaming industry when our best work can sit proudly alongside that of the film and television industries,â he added.

Tom Guy, software and games trading manager for PC World commented: âThe world of video games entertainment has changed a great deal in recent years with games providing users with a more creative and technically superior experience than ever before.â

âThese awards enable us to show our support for the UK industry and in particular give recognition to the artistic, creative and technical talents that are helping to drive this exciting market forward.â
