No BlizzCon in 2012

Blizzard will focus on Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria and Battle.net World Championship this year

Blizzard has confirmed that it will not hold BlizzCon this year, with the next fan-focused event scheduled for 2013.

The World of Warcraft creator said the decision was due to a busy schedule which includes concentrating on the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, an eSports event taking place in Asia at the end of the year.

"We're excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year," wrote the company on the official Battle.net site.

"We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players' hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we've decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013."

The annual BlizzCon fanfest has been a huge money spinner for Blizzard - last year it raised its prices to a maximum of $500 for the two day event. Those that can't make the pilgrimage to the Anaheim Convention Center in California are able to buy 'virtual tickets' for $25 and watch via the web or on a pay-per-view channel in the US.

As well as fan service over the two days, the event is usually the first place for big reveals of new content for major Blizzard franchises World of Warcraft and Diablo.
