Independent Games Festival announces award finalists for 2018

Baba is You leads with four nominations at the 20th annual IGF

The Independent Games Festival, which recognises the most influential, innovative, and acclaimed projects from the indie sphere, has announced its finalists for the 2018 awards.

Now in its 20th year the IGF is scheduled to take place on March 21 during the Game Developers Conference. It will be held at the San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center immediately before the Game Developers Choice Awards.

It will be hosted by Trent Kusters, co-founder of League of Geeks, the Melbourne-based studio behind Armello. Kusters is currently a board member of Australia's Freeplay Independent Games Festival, and was named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 for games in 2016.

From nearly 600 entries, 35 games were nominated for awards with a few titles receiving multiple nominations across different categories, such as Baba is You which has been nominated four times.

IGF Award winners will receive more than $50,000 of prizes in various categories, including the $30,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Both the IGF Awards and the Game Developers Choice Awards ceremonies are available to attend for all GDC 2018 pass-holders and will be livestreamed online once again.
