Honor of Kings breaks $10bn in lifetime revenue

First mobile title to hit the milestone

Tencent's MOBA Honor of Kings has made over $10 billion in player spending since its launch in 2015, becoming the first mobile game to do so.

According to a report from Sensor Tower, the title has generated more than $2 billion of that total in 2021 alone, across the App Store and Google Play.

It's the highest-grossing MOBA title by a considerable margin; Supercell's Brawl Stars is the second-biggest earner in player spending, having generated over $320 million between January and August 2021.

The third highest-grossing title is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which made $220 million during the same period.

In terms of downloads, Pokémon Unite is now the genre's biggest launch ever, surpassing 15 million downloads in its first two days, and 30 million downloads after seven days. For comparison, it took Brawl Stars seven days to reach the 15 million installs milestone.

On the whole, Sensor Tower reported that the MOBA genre generates over $300 million a month in player spending, with average monthly revenue rising by 43% year-over-year.

In 2021, average monthly revenues have risen by around 14 per cent so far, largely driven by the consistent growth of Honor of Kings.
