Google prepping game streaming service - Report

Offering codenamed Yeti would work either with Chromecast or potential Google console

Companies large and small have been attempting to bring on-demand streaming to gaming with limited success, and Google may be the next company to join the pursuit. According to a report from The Information, Google is working on a subscription-based game streaming service.

Citing "people with knowledge of the project," The Information reports that the service is being developed under the codename Yeti, but it's unclear exactly how users would access it yet. Two possibilities are that it would work on Google's Chromecast streaming digital media players, or that it would work on a Google-developed console.

Reports of Google considering an entry into the console market have been reported for years, but such efforts never found their way to market. There's some reason to think things may be different this time around. Last month, Google hired former PlayStation and Xbox executive Phil Harrison to work on a new business for the company. Harrison couldn't say what his new role would entail, but did describe it as an "extremely special opportunity."
