GEOMERICS ENLIGHTENS MONTREAL

Founder Member To Lecture At Montreal International Game Summit

Monday 26th November/...Geomerics founder Dr Chris Doran will be presenting a lecture at this year's Montreal International Games Summit. Taking place on Tuesday 27th November at Palais de Congrès at 10.15, the session will take a look at Geomerics' ground breaking work on real-time radiosity. Dr Doran will explain how Geomerics' flagship product, Enlighten, is poised to revolutionise the process of lighting scenes within video games.

The demonstration will include new footage of Enlighten in action, giving attendees a fresh look at the revolutionary lighting middleware ahead of Enlighten's SDK (Software Development Kit) release in Q1 2008.

Gary Lewis, CEO, Geomerics said: "Montreal is the perfect opportunity for us to showcase how close the Enlighten SDK is to completion, as well as its potential to revolutionise the scene and model lighting process during development."

Enlighten's real-time radiosity technology draws on Geomerics' unique combination of founder IP and in-house video games expertise. Enlighten delivers remarkably naturalistic results, including a range of colour reflection and bleeding effects well beyond the reach of current real-time lighting techniques which in turn will usher in an era of truly dynamic lighting for video games and a range of CG (computer graphics) applications.

By computing all lighting at run-time, Enlighten removes the need for pre-calculated light maps, which still dominate video game environments despite great advances in hardware capability. This real-time functionality has the potential to revolutionise video game and CG development processes, with Enlighten allowing worlds to be lit in accordance with the methods of professional cinematographers whilst providing instantaneous feedback to the artists lighting them. This will shorten development times and allow artists with to be far more creative with light than currently possible.

Geomerics Ltd

Geomerics Ltd was founded in 2005 by ANGLE and developed under ANGLE's Progeny® programme. It is one of eight such companies in the ANGLE portfolio at present. Geomerics is an innovation-led company specialising in graphics software for the games industry and beyond. It is built on a combination of advanced in-house IP, a remarkable research team, and strong management experience. The company's first product is Enlighten. Enlighten radically transforms the way that lighting is handled in computer games. Instead of pre-baking the effects of global illumination into the scene they can now be computed at run time, allowing for fully dynamic lighting. This dramatically enhances realism as well as opening up a new world of creative possibilities for designers and artists.
