Dr Mario World reaches No.1 faster than Harry Potter (but slower than BTS)

App Annie reports Nintendo's latest mobile hit ranks lower on iOS in the UK than the US

Having arrived a day early, Dr Mario World is off to a solid start on iOS, topping the charts within less than 12 hours.

A report from App Annie shows that the newest Nintendo mobile game reached No.1 in the US iOS games charts by 11am when it launched yesterday.

When comparing for hourly ranking with other major mobile releases this summer, this puts Dr Mario well ahead of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Niantic's Potter-themed follow-up to Pokémon Go didn't reach No.1 until 12am on June 21 -- a day after it launched.

However, Korean pop band and global phenomenon BTS have both properties beaten, as their visual novel and character collectathon BTS World reached No.1 four hours faster than Dr Mario.

App Annie reports that in the UK, Dr Mario World has peaked at No.9 overall, but was No.1 in puzzle games.

Dr Mario World takes the gameplay of the classic NES puzzle title and gives it a match-three twist, although it is coming under fire for its reliance on free-to-play monetisation techniques.
