Commando Kiwi wins Make Something Unreal Live

"This competition has changed our lives forever," says team captain

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain: Lost Chapters by Commando Kiwi has won Epic's Make Something Unreal Live competition, securing the developers an Unreal Engine 3 license for iOS.

"It's remarkable what these student teams were able to produce working remotely for such a short period of time using UDK," said judge and Fighting Fantasy co-creator Ian Livingstone OBE.

"Although only one of the teams has won this amazing prize, the experience students have gained is invaluable and I fully expect to see many of them working in the video games industry. We look forward to playing these games, and Steve [Jackson] and I are sure that Fighting Fantasy fans everywhere will really enjoy these new interactive experiences based on the books."

Derp Studios, Digital Mage, Indigo Jam and Commando Kiwi all presented their iOS titles, based on Fighting Fantasy books, at this weekend's Gadget Show Live after working on the projects since November. All four shortlisted games will be published on the App Store.

"I'm just dead proud of my team. They've worked really hard and this competition has changed our lives forever," said Jonny Robinson, producer of Commando Kiwi and team captain. The team also wins a holiday as part of their prize.

"Priming the next generation of game developers benefits the industry as a whole," added Epic Games' european territory manager Mike Gamble.

"This competition may be over but the journey for four new studios has only begun."
