Chinese regulators hand out 87 new video game licenses in February

Game approvals that have been greenlit in 2023 are now nearly a third of 2022's total

Chinese regulators approved 87 new video game licenses in February.

South China Morning Post reported that Tencent and NetEase were among the companies that received a green light for titles.

So far, a total of 175 game license approvals have been issued in 2023.

Last year saw 468 domestic games and 44 imported titles that were approved by regulators.

The news of February's approvals comes a month after it was reported that in 2022, the Chinese game market sales dropped 10.3% to $39.7 billion.

It was the first time the sector decreased since figures were reported in 2003.
