The Fallout 4: Pip-Boy Edition includes, unsurprising, a replica Pip-Boy as one of its accessories and fans were delighted by it. So delighted that the special edition has now sold out everywhere, leaving some frustrated and ranting at Bethesda about the lack of availability. Now Pete Hines, marketing vice president, has defended the company's efforts.
"We made a shitload of Pip-Boys, and we went back and made more, and went back and made more. I keep seeing stuff about, 'Oh, you only did a few thousand." No--we did a ton of these things. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector's edition we've ever done, ever," he told GameSpot.
"We reached a point where we'd go back to the factories and they were like, 'guys, this is it, sorry. This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.'"
The Fallout 4: Pip-Boy Edition costs $120 and also includes a Pip-Boy Pocket Guide and poster and purchases from the Bethesda store were limited to one per customer. Some pre-orders are currently listed on eBay with prices as high as $400.
Fallout 4 was announced at E3 and launches on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
