Avalanche opens third studio in Malmö, Sweden

New studio from Just Cause and Mad Max dev will focus on "relatively small and flexible projects"

Avalanche Studios has opened a third office in Malmö, Sweden, the Just Cause developer's third location worldwide.

The company was founded in Stockholm in 2003, and added a location in New York City in 2011. The Malmö studio will work on both current and future IPs, with a particular focus on, "relatively small and flexible projects which rest on a solid foundation of AAA production values and award-winning proprietary technology."

Avalanche has appointed Sara Ponnert as Malmö's studio manager. Ponnert previously worked in games publishing at Pan Vision and Sony Ericsson Mobile, and most recently worked as a business developer at Media Evolution.

A core team of Avalanche developers will relocate from Stockholm to Malmö to get the studio started.

"It's been hard to decide where to open our new studio," said Avalanche CEO Pim Holfve in a statement. "Sweden offers many locations with potential, but we feel that Malmö ticks all the boxes."

Avalanche Studios took on $10 million in funding from Nordisk Film in April last year. Earlier this month, it announced that it would be helping Bethesda and id Software on the development of Rage 2.
