Australian political party promises $4m games development fund
The Greens plans to "level up Western Australia" after this week's state election
Politicians have pledged to inject four million Australian dollars into the video games development scene as part of an election campaign.
The nation's Greens party has detailed its plans for Western Australian under the banner Level Up WA, building on the established Australian Interactive Games Fund. The promise comes ahead of the WA state election tomorrow.
Gamespot reports that the proposed $4m would primarily be used to help small independent studios and start-ups with their business costs. It would also be spread over the course of four years.
The Greens also hope to recreate some other games initiatives, such as Melbourne's Arcade co-working space, a marketing assitance fund, and a 'living salary' grants scheme for companies in the early stage of development.
"The massive success of mobile gaming, and the emerging technology of VR, present huge opportunities for the industry, and with just a few key measures, we could see a considerable amount of that work undertaken in Western Australia," said Scott Ludlum, senator for Western Australia and communications spokesperson for the Greens.
