Atari US has announced plans to slash its 320-strong workforce by 20 per cent, including a reduction of admin staff of approximately 26 per cent.

Employees of the firm were informed yesterday, and the company anticipates the reductions will be completed by July 31, 2007.

"We expect today's reorganisation will continue to reduce Atari's general and administrative cost," commented David Pierce, president and CEO.

"These actions, though difficult, are a significant first step in reorganising Atari and demonstrate our commitment to restoring shareholder value."

The company said the charges related to restructuring would amount to USD $800,000 — USD 1.1 million.
