Sony announces PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

Two versions of next-gen console shown alongside 26 upcoming games

Sony has announced that it will be releasing two versions of the PlayStation 5: a standard edition, and a digital edition.

The hardware was shown for the first time today during a reveal showcase, with the two versions of the hardware shown side-by-side -- one with a disc drive, and one without.

Pricing details for the two systems have still not been provided, though it's likely the digital edition of the PS5 would be sold at a lower price point, similar to the Xbox One All-Digital Edition that Microsoft launched last year.

This first glimpse of the hardware was showcased alongside 26 upcoming titles that are planned for release on the PlayStation 5 from a mix of Sony's internal studios as well as third-parties.
