Roblox acquires PacketZoom

Mobile performance improvement start-up will bring its technology to MMO studio as it pursues international growth

Today, Roblox announced it has acquired mobile performance improvement start-up PacketZoom for an undisclosed amount. PacketZoom's technology will be used by Roblox to improve its MMO of the same name as the studio makes overtures toward further international growth.

Roblox just recently completed a $150 million Series F funding round toward continued international expansion. The company already added Spanish language support earlier this year and has promised more languages and currencies to come. At the time, Roblox also mentioned the funding would go toward future acquisitions and new offices.

The acquisition, as TechCrunch reports, is an understandable one. PacketZoom is a California-based start-up that improves mobile performance, and is designed especially for networks that have the tendancy to be unreliable or inconsistent, such as can be found in emerging markets.

The founder of PacketZoom, Chetan Ahuja, and the company's four engineers will join Roblox as part of the acquisition.
