Remedy Entertainment building third development team

Update: With "Vanguard," Control developer's multi-project goals aiming for something "a lot more adventurous"

While Remedy Entertainment is hard at work on supernatural adventure game Control, that's not all it has in the works. The studio is slowly compiling a third team to work on something a bit different.

Speaking to at Gamescom, Remedy communications chief Thomas Puha said the studio is creating a third team to work on an unknown, third project. Currently, it has one team focused on the upcoming release of Control, and a second creating the story mode for Smilegate-developed military shooters CrossFire HD and CrossFire 2.

"We're a multi-project studio, we're slowly building a third team. With Control, it's redefining Remedy again. We made two very linear story-driven game and again we're going to have the story but in a game that's a lot more adventurous," Puha said. "Hopefully, it's something we can keep building more in the years to come. I feel very good about it. As a company, we're in a very good place."

Creating a third studio to work on a new project jives with what CEO Tero Virtala told last year: that it wants to release more games across more platforms while retaining stronger control of its upcoming IP, as Alan Wake and Quantum Break's publishing rights remain with Microsoft.

Update: Remedy's third team is now listed on the company's website, and is called "Vanguard." The team is currently hiring a senior gameplay programmer and designer, and describes its mission as follows:

"The small 'Vanguard' development team will act with a startup mentality within the stability of a large company. Its mission is to challenge conventions and to prototype and ship new types of ongoing live multiplayer game experiences, alongside our established and growing core game development teams and the Northlight technology group."
