Netflix and Telltale partner on Minecraft TV show, Stranger Things game

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an interactive five-episode series, but Netflix doesn't have "any plans to get into gaming"

Telltale Games has struck a partnership with Netflix that will produce a game based on the hit show Stranger Things, and an "interactive adventure" based on Minecraft: Story Mode for the streaming service.

The news first surfaced in a report from Techradar, which has since been confirmed and clarified by both Netflix and Telltale - the latter in a series of tweets stating that the company was "delighted by the response" to the rumours about Minecraft: Story Mode.

While Minecraft will be "an interactive adventure" rather than a game, Telltale also said that it would be making a game based on one of the hottest properties on Netflix: Stranger Things.

"Our partnership with Netflix is something we're incredibly proud of, and while we don't have anything more to share right now, we're excited to reveal details on these projects later in the year," Telltale said.

Netflix has offered even more details, explaining that Minecraft: Story Mode will be an interactive narrative series spread across five episodes - "an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service, like Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile."

"We don't have any plans to get into gaming," Netflix said. "There's a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service."

Minecraft: Story Mode will launch on Netflix in the fall, with the Stranger Things game due to be published by Telltale, "at a later date."
