Unity Technologies grows sales by 100%

CEO attributes success to fundamental shift towards web-based gaming

Unity Technologies, the company behind the Unity engine, today announced a 100 per cent growth in its licence sales over the past six months. The Copenhagen-based company has doubled its numbers of staff during the same period, and anticipates further recruitment activity towards the end of 2009.

David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies commented, "We seem to have struck a chord with the community, professional developers and new companies looking at ways to engage with their audience through web-based games.

"There's been a fundamental shift towards web based games and MMOs, which has now reached a tipping point in the West. There's no turning the clock back."

Unity's platform agnostic tools have been used to create hundreds of commercial games, including App Store number one Zombieville USA, with at least one new Unity game appearing on iPhone on a daily basis. The latest version of the development platform - Unity 2.5.1 - has just been released.
