UK Charts: PC big guns can't shift Bond from the top spot

Electronic Arts' latest James Bond 007 offering was neither shaken nor stirred by the launch of major PC titles Battlefield Vietnam and Unreal Tournament 2004 last week, with Everything or Nothing taking the top spot for a fourth week.

Electronic Arts' latest James Bond 007 offering was neither shaken nor stirred by the launch of major PC titles Battlefield Vietnam and Unreal Tournament 2004 last week, with Everything or Nothing taking the top spot for a fourth week.

Battlefield Vietnam took the number three spot in the full-price chart and topped the PC chart, while Atari's Unreal Tournament 2004 was at number six in the full-price ranking and number three on the PC - just behind Norton Internet Security 2004, which continues to intrude in the leisure software charts thanks to the wave of virus scares over the past few months.

Both games are selling strongly, with UT2004 recording the highest ever first week sales of a PC DVD title, and it's likely that they'll sell steadily over the coming weeks thanks to good word of mouth and the likelihood of people who bought one game in the first week returning to buy the other at a later date.

The wooden spoon in the PC first-person shooter "super Friday", sadly, goes to the UK-developed Breed, which had a disappointing debut at number 32 in the full-price chart (number eight on the PC chart).

The only other new title in the top 40 ranking was Activision's Xbox ninja title Tenchu: Return from Darkness, which appeared at number 22 in the full price charts.

Up in the top ten, there were continued strong performances for the likes of Codemasters' LMA Manager 2004 (unmoved at number two), Sega's Sonic Heroes (down one place to number four), EA's Cricket 2004 (up a place to number seven) and Sony's online title SOCOM II: US Navy SEALs (down two places to number nine).

Eidos' Deus Ex: Invisible war dropped four places to number eight, while Square Enix' EA published Cube title Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles shored up the top ten, dropping five places to number ten after only a week in the charts.

The top ranked Xbox title this week is Deus Ex: Invisible war, although its full price chart ranking is helped by the performance of the PC version, while Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is the top ranked GameCube game in the chart.

This week sees a couple of exclusives arriving for the Cube, with Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and Harvest Moon 2: A Wonderful Life both appearing on shelves, while PS2 football fans can treat themselves to the online-enabled This Is Football 2004 and Electronic Arts will also be publishing Namco's R:Racing across all three platforms. Our tip for number one, however, is the eagerly awaited Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (Xbox only, for now) - which may well be the game to shunt 007 off the top spot.
