Ubisoft's Alex Hutchinson departs to form Typhoon Studios

Far Cry 4 creative director starts up new studio, "imagining a brand new world to inflict on all of you"

Alex Hutchinson, a creative director at Ubisoft Montreal for the last seven years known for AAA titles like Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed 3, has announced on his Twitter account today that he's done with the French publisher and has decided to form a new outfit called Typhoon Studios. He left Ubisoft in February, according to LinkedIn. "Extremely proud of all we achieved on Far Cry and Assassins but very excited to build something new," he wrote.

"Probably won't have much to announce in the near future as we hire, build our studio, buy a coffee machine and build Ikea furniture but we are hard at work imagining a brand new world to inflict on all of you, so stay tuned."

At the moment, the website for Typhoon Studios simply contains a contact form, so little is known about the studio's team, other than Hutchinson having mentioned in a tweet that he formed the Montreal-based studio with Reid Schneider, whose LinkedIn page lists him as an executive producer at Typhoon. Schneider has served as an executive producer for Warner Bros. and Electronic Arts previously.

Hutchinson has a long tenure in the games business, dating back to 2002. Before his Ubisoft Montreal days, he worked at EA as a lead designer on top titles like Spore and The Sims 2.
