Tropico publisher acquires Commandos franchise among others

Kalypso Media: "We see it as our responsibility to want to revive and further develop these beloved games for the fans around the world”

The Kalypso Media Group, best-known as the publisher behind the Tropico franchise, has acquired all of intellectual property of Pyro Studios.

Along with the popular Commandos brand, Kalypso has acquired other titles such as Imperial Glory and Praetorians.

Kalypso confirmed it would be developing new games in across the franchises, along with an "extensive adaptation" of the existing titles for modern platforms. The publisher will begin speaking with potential development partners "in the near future".

"We have great respect for what the Pyro Studios team have accomplished and created throughout the history of the studio," said Kalypso Media founder and global managing director Simon Hellwig,

"Therefore, we see it as our responsibility to want to revive and further develop these beloved games for the fans around the world."

Ignacio Pérez, founder of Pyro Studios, added: "We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands."
