Tiga becomes Train2Game examination body

Trade association to act as awarding body for distance learning courses

UK-based developer trade association Tiga has announced it will become the independent awarding and examination body for the distance learning courses from Train2Game.

Tiga will also help to develop the courses and examinations, with Tiga members providing guest lecturers for courses. T2G currently has two games industry related courses, one in programming and the other in design. An art course is also planned to launch in 2010.

The schemes have proven popular enough for Bedfordshire University to integrate aspects of the courses into its own games degree programme. The T2G courses are priced at around GBP 4,960.

"The best trade associations award their own qualifications and provide training to help meet their members’ needs and to improve skills in their respective industries", said Tiga CEO Richard Wilson.

"Tiga, by working with T2G, will be taking practical action to help deal with the skills shortages that hold back the UK games industry. This is a real challenge: a Tiga survey of game developers last year showed that 63 per cent of respondents had faced skills shortages over the previous 12 months."
