THQ launches Partners programme

Publisher to open up global retail and digital distribution network to "select" partners

THQ has announced that it has set up a new business unit, THQ Partners, to open up its global retail and digital distribution network to other developers and publishers.

The move, which seems to broadly follow a similar pattern to EA Partners, aims to open up new revenue streams for the publisher by utilising its existing infrastructure.

THQ Partners will be led by Tim Walsh, formerly executive VP of publisher relations at IGA Worldwide, who has been appointed as VP for the new business.

"I'm extremely pleased to join THQ and launch THQ Partners," he said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to working with a select number of world-class developers and publishers to distribute their great games through our global network."

And Ian Curran, executive VP for global publishing, added: "THQ Partners is charged with maximising the efficiencies of our global distribution network by enhancing our product offerings with quality games from developers and publishers who don't have the benefit of our extensive retail and online sales operations."

No specific partners for the business have yet been announced, but it is expected that a range of talks will take place at E3 next month.
