Tesco cancels cut-price Saints Row 2 pre-orders

Retailer "unable to obtain" game after offering it for super-discounted £15.97

Tesco has cancelled pre-orders of Saints Row 2 after offering the title for GBP 15.97.

The low price was only on offer for a short amount of time on the supermarket's official website – whether as a cut-throat promotion or genuine mistake – before being pushed back up to the more realistic GBP 39.97.

However, any consumers who took advantage of the offer have now been told that Tesco has been unable to obtain the game.

"We are sorry to inform you that we have not been able to obtain an item in your order," wrote the company in emails sent to consumers, and reprinted by VG247.

"We apologise that we have been unable to fulfil every item in your order on this occasion, but hope that you will return to shop with Tesco.com Entertainment in the future."

As retail prepares for a busy Christmas period, a number of cut-price promotions on hardware and software have been launched at various outlets across the UK.

UPDATE: Tesco has now admitted the GBP 15.97 price was an error. "Unfortunately, there was an error in the price at the time that you placed your order, and as a result we have had to cancel your order," said the company in a second email to consumers.
