Starbreeze slashes price of Overkill's The Walking Dead due to low sales

Content sold for $60 one month ago now available for $30

Starbreeze has cut the price of Overkill's The Walking Dead by 50%, an apparent consequence of the game's poor commercial performance

Overkill's The Walking Dead launched for PC on November 6, priced at $60 for the standard version and $80 for a Deluxe Edition. Now, just one month on from release, Starbreeze has launched a new Starter Edition priced at $30.

The Starter Edition includes all content from the $60 version. Starbreeze has also made the game's Season Two content available to those who bought the game at the higher price, which Starter Edition buyers will have to purchase separately.

"One of the most active topics of conversation since launch has been the price," the game's developer, Overkill, said, as quoted by VG247. "Having read your comments and thoughts about how best to move forward, we're introducing the Starter Edition."

Starbreeze had invested heavily in Overkill's The Walking Dead, highlighting the game as its main focus after a period of big spending and the failure of Lion Game Lion's Raid World War II.

However, it became clear last week that Overkill's The Walking Dead had failed to reach the levels of performance expected, resulting in the announcement that Starbreeze would be seeking ways to cut costs.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is due to launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in February 2019.
