Handing over a "substantial minority" share in the company, Stockholm-based developer Star Stable Entertainment has secured a €15 million investment from film distributor Nordisk Film.
Pitching itself as "one of the few online gaming sites targeted specifically towards girls", the developer's flagship game Star Stable Online has over 14 million registered users in 182 different countries.
Founded in 2011, Star Stable Entertainment has over 100 employees and intends to channel the Nordisk Film investment into further development and growth.
"Our journey to provide a meaningful game experience for girls has just begun, and we continue to give new players around the world a great welcome as they embark on a fantastic adventure and become part of a worldwide community," said Johan Sjöberg, CEO of Star Stable Entertainment AB.
"We are very happy that Nordisk Film recognise the importance of our mission and are joining us on this journey."
This is the fifth deal inked by Nordisk Film since 2017 as part of its wider strategy to invest in promising Nordic development studios; other investments include minority stakes in Avalanche Studios, Reto Moto, Flashbulb Games, and Multiverse.
