Square Enix appoints new COO

Former vice president of business and legal affairs Clinton Foy promoted to new role

Square Enix Inc. has promoted Clinton Foy to the position of COO.

Foy held the position of vice president of business and legal affairs at Square Enix for the last six years. He also served as general counsel.

His new responsibilities will include leading the company's business development initiatives and online group, as well as watching over the business and legal affairs department.

"One of the key new responsibilities of the COO role will be to shape and drive more aggressive business development initiatives in free-to-play, social, mobile, browser, and emerging platforms," said Square Enix president and CEO Mike Fischer.

"Clinton's valuable experience makes him uniquely qualified to lead our organisation in these important areas."

Before joining Square Enix, Foy worked as an attorney with Heller Ehrman, where he represented high-profile clients like Microsoft, Yahoo and Sony.

Foy takes on his new role in a period of decline for Square Enix. The company reported a loss of $140 million last financial year, and both revenues and profits were down in the last quarter.
