Spector: I know we polarised people

Warren Spector's eulogy for Junction Point

Following confirmation yesterday that the Epic Mickey studio Junction Point is closing, Warren Spector took to Facebook to share his thoughts on the news.

"Whatever you think of me, or Junction Point, or Disney or the Disney Epic Mickey games - yes, I know we polarised people! - I'll always look back on the last eight years with nothing but pride," he said in an open letter to fans.

"Rarely have I worked with a team more dedicated or harder working. Never have I been part of a game - of anything, really - that touched people at as deep or personal a level as the Epic Mickey games. That's priceless."

"With Mickey Mouse as our hero, we introduced a mainstream audience to some cool 'core game' concepts"

The studio's most recent game was Disney Epic Mickey 2, which was both a critical and commercial disappointment despite its 700 strong development team.

Spector also used the letter to thank the Junction Point team for their hard work, as well as Disney and Pixar for their support.

"I said to myself as Junction Point embarked on the Epic Mickey journey that, worst case, we'd be 'a footnote in Disney history.' Looking back on it, I think we did far better than that. With Mickey Mouse as our hero, we introduced a mainstream audience to some cool 'core game' concepts... and, most especially, we restored Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to a place of prominence."

Disney has confirmed that Spector won't be staying with the company, while Spector stated he hadn't yet decided on his next career move.

"I honestly don't know what that will be yet, so don't ask."
