Sony Online Entertainment cuts jobs

Up to a third of staff affected suggest reports

Sony Online Entertainment is laying off up to a third of staff and closing a number of studios, according to reports.

Kotaku states that studios in Seattle, Tuscon, Ariz and Denver have been affected with half of the staff in Austin made redundant. 3D Realms boss George Broussard first revealed the move via Twitter.

The company released free-to-play game Free Realms on the PlayStation 3 this week and was also responsible for another MMO, DC Universe Online, earlier this year.

GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Sony Online Entertainment for comment.
