Sony launches Video Delivery Service

800 movies to be available to rent or buy in the UK for PS3 or PSP viewing today

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will launch its Video Delivery Service for the region today, announcing over 800 movies for the UK for users to rent or buy.

Rental titles will cost GBP 2.49 each, while buying the movie in digital format will cost GBP 6.99, with "many in high definition" according to a company statement.

Content will be viewable on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles, with a mix of classic and new releases on offer, including Angels and Demons, Cars, The Dark Knight, Dead Space: Downfall, Star Trek and Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen at launch - with more titles added each week.

"The launch of the PlayStation Network video delivery service extends our entertainment offering and provides consumers with another way to access their favourite movies, whether at home or on the go," said Andrew House, president and CEO of SCEE. "With the choice of content constantly expanding, including full games, bite-size downloadable 'minis' games, demos and now movies too, the PlayStation Network is the gateway to a world of entertainment."

The first part of the industry-exclusive GamesIndustry.biz interview with Andrew House is available now.
