Sony Europe's president announces retirement

Regarded as the man responsible for successfully establishing the PlayStation brand across Europe, founding president of SCEE Chris Deering is due to retire at the end of 2005.

Regarded as the man responsible for successfully establishing the PlayStation brand across Europe, founding president of SCEE Chris Deering is due to retire at the end of 2005.

Deering is expected to relocate to the United States where his family now lives, to pursue personal interests. His role will be taken up by Fujio Nishida, who is currently employed at Sony Corporation in Tokyo in the position of EVP, Corporate Executive in charge of Electronics Marketing.

Sir Howard Stringer, chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation holds Deering in the highest regards, stating: "Chris Deering has made brilliant contributions to Sony Corporation throughout his career as president of Sony Europe, President and later Chairman of SCEE and as a senior executive at Sony Pictures. The company will long benefit from all the initiatives he has put into place. He has earned our respect, our admiration and our gratitude and we wish him continued success as he moves on in his career."
