Social Shenmue game folds after 1 year

Mobage network title fails to make leap to PC

Shenmue World, a social title based on the popular third-person franchise, has folded after only a year of operation in Japan.

Shenmue World ceased operation on 26 December with a brief message to fans via the official website.

The game had been exclusively available on the Mobage mobile gaming platform, but had been due to make the transfer to the newer Yahoo! Mobage system, which would have allowed PC browser play.

Yahoo! Mobage was founded by collaboration between the US-based Yahoo! and Japanese mobile and social giant DeNA and launched on 1 October, 2010 to a primarily Japanese audience, with the aim of attracting American developers to the market.
