Sky partners with The Walking Dead producer for joint mobile venture

Skybound Stories to develop narrative-driven experiences out of new and existing IP

European entertainment company Sky has partnered with The Walking Dead producer Skybound Entertainment to create a new joint mobile venture: Skybound Stories.

Skybound Stories will focus on development of narrative-focused mobile games using episodic formats and allowing for player choice. The venture will create new IP for some of its games, while others will use existing IP.

Though Skybound Stories has not confirmed which existing IP will be used in this endeavor, possibilities could include Sky productions such as historical fantasy Britannia or period drama Babylon Berlin. Skybound Entertainment could also provide The Walking Dead, though the proposed episodic format for Skybound Entertainment sounds similar to the company's existing series partnership with Telltale Games.

"As gaming continues to broaden in appeal with a higher quality of IP, the boundaries between games and video are gradually disappearing," said Sky VP of business development John Jelley. "This joint venture will help us find innovative new ways for customers to experience the shows they love - in a natively interactive format on any smartphone."
