Sequel buyers switching from 360 to PS3 - report

GamePlan US data indicates Sony preference on Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed

New data from OTX's GamePlan Insights seems to indicated an intent on the part of gamers to shift their sequel-buying preference in the US from the Xbox 360 platform to the PlayStation 3.

The information, according to Gamasutra, reveals that 15 per cent of people who plan to purchase the PS3 edition of Assassin's Creed II own the original version on the Xbox 360, while just 7 per cent of those planning to buy the 360 version owned the original version on the PS3.

OTX analyst Nick Williams is also seeing a similar trend in the data for Modern Warfare 2 purchasing intentions: "The PS3 seems poised to shift the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales for most major multi-platform releases in its favour among dual owners," he explained.

He added that of those planning to buy the Assassin's Creed sequel, a "sizeable portion" were looking to do so on the Sony console.

It's unclear whether or the data took into account the changing console installed base, as when the original Creed title was released the Xbox 360 enjoyed a majority over the PS3, which has since changed in the past two years and with the release of the PS3 Slim.
