Scopely acquires Digit Game Studios

Mobile publisher picks up Dublin-based MMO developer after collaboration on Star Trek: Fleet Command

Today, mobile publisher Scopely has announced it has acquired MMO studio Digit Game Studios following a collaboration between the two companies last year on MMO strategy title Star Trek: Fleet Command.

The acquisition will see Digit bring its 70-plus employees to Scopely's existing team of over 800 across offices in Culver City, Barcelona (added in 2017), and now (with Digit's office) Dublin. Scopely has also announced it will double its office space in Culver City and grow its team in the city further.

As for the Dublin office, Digit founder Richard Barnwell will remain in charge of the studio.

"The trusted partnership we have built the last few years with our collaborator Digit also laid the foundation for even more opportunities in the strategy space," said Scopley chief revenue officer Tim O'Brien. "It's exciting to see [Star Trek Fleet Command] garnering awards and popularity, showcasing that our deep collaboration has been a great mix for Fleet Command. We look forward to further scaling the Scopely business with DIGIT, who will be a fantastic addition to our growing global team."
