Reggie Fils-Aime: Nintendo US makes 60% of revenue during the holidays

Company still eyeing 20 million Switch sales for the year as it enters busiest sales period

For Nintendo to meet its fiscal year goal to sell 20 million Nintendo Switch units in 2018-2019, it has some serious work to do. But Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime's anticipations for the holiday season are far from pessimistic.

In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Fils-Aime said that the gift-giving season in the Americas (where Nintendo sees the most revenue) is especially important to Nintendo. "The holiday selling season - October, November and December - critically important to our company," he said.

"We typically do, in the Americas, about 60% of our revenue during that time frame."

Nintendo has thus far sold 5.07 million Switch units in the first half of the fiscal year, which gives it some way to go to meet the 20 million unit goal for March of 2019. Total, the console had sold nearly 23 million units as of Nintendo's last quarterly briefing - already leaps and bounds better than the Wii U's not-quite-14 million lifetime sales.

"With innovation there is always risk," Fils-Aime said. "And as one of our company presidents said, 'We run toward risk, not away from risk.' With risk, sometimes you have tremendous success, sometimes not so much. One of our other company presidents one time said, 'When things are going well, don't get caught up in that, and when things are going poorly don't be too sad about that either.'"
