Scott Pilgrim vs. The World tops August's PS3 downloads, according to analyst's report.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 23rd, 2010 - As per the Research & Analysis division of analyst firm Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE), revenue from the Playstation Network (PSN) brought in an estimated $5.7 million USD from PSN titles (not including PSOne Classics or downloadable retail titles). Revenues increased 20% from the month prior, making August a very strong month for Sony's online service.

'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' saw a relatively massive 117,000 unit opening for the month ($1.2 million USD). Due to a release date earlier than the XBLA version, the PSN title easily surpassed the XBLA version's 38,000 units. August saw multiple new releases with strong performances such as The Behemoth's 'Castle Crashers,' which saw 27,000 units sold ($399,000 USD) in approximately 3 days, and 'Shank' by Klei Entertainment also did well, selling 23,000 units ($351,000 USD) in August.

'Playstation Network proved strong in August, especially for marquee title Scott Pilgrim,' said Benjamin Schlichter, Director of Research & Analysis at FADE. 'This title was one of the few instances where a game based on a movie was better received than the movie itself.'

Top 5 PSN Titles for August 2010, by Revenue:

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Ubisoft) - 117,000 units ($9.99) Castle Crashers (The Behemoth) - 27,000 ($14.99) Shank (The Behemoth) 23,000 ($14.99) ZEN Pinball (Zen Studios) 27,000 ($9.99) Joe Danger (Hello Games) 14,000 ($14.99) Note: PSN titles refer only to Playstation 3 titles that are only downloadable through the Playstation Network and excludes PSOne Classics, PSP titles, and full retail PS3 titles that are also downloadable.
