PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds most covered game in December 2017
Star Wars Battlefront II knocked from top spot as PUBG enjoys official console and Xbox launch
Last month nearly 7,000 articles were written about PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in the media, making it the most talked about game in December by a considerable margin.
The figures, courtesy of ICO Partners consultant Thomas Bidaux, revealed that Destiny 2 was a distant second with 4,692 articles, followed by Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 3,133.
Here are the games that had the most online articles mentioning them in December 2017.

Standing out for me:
- Games covered at the Game Awards/PSX get tons of attention in December
- Cuphead still a media darling
- PUBG "release" pushed it again strongly
- Good perf of Nintendo pic.twitter.com/Lj2hEUvV8o
It also knocked Star Wars Battlefront II from its November top spot, the prolific coverage of which was driven by the unfolding loot box controversy.
December was a particularly significant month for PUBG. The record-breaking title finally left Early Access after months of on-going development, enjoyed an official release onto Xbox One, and breached three million concurrent players on Steam.
The dizzying volume of articles demonstrates the continued popularity of PUBG since it first appeared in March last year as an Early Access release.
However, it is worth noting that PUBG was not among the top ten most covered games last year according to data from ICO Partners, as illustrated in the GamesIndustry.biz Year in Numbers 2017.
Bidaux also noted that titles covered in the Game Awards and PlayStation Experience received a lot of media attention, and that Nintendo performed well in the numbers, receiving widespread coverage for multiple titles.
