Persona 5 tops UK boxed charts

LEGO City Undercover returns to the charts after 4 years

Critically acclaimed RPG Persona 5 has topped GfK and UKIE's UK boxed charts.

There were a few new games released this past week at boxed retail, although nothing particularly major. Persona 5 (PS3 and PS4) was the standout title, with huge review scores helping the game become the first Japanese RPG to top the charts since Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch back in February 2013. The last major JRPG launch was Final Fantasy XV, although that arrived in the far more competitive Christmas launch window.

It means Mass Effect Andromeda takes a tumble from its perch at No.1. The game falls down to No.5 with a 53% drop in sales. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and LEGO Worlds hold onto No.2 and No.3 respectively.

The other new entry (of sorts) in the Top Ten this week is LEGO City Undercover. Warner Bros' 2013 Wii U exclusive comes to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and returns to the Top Ten at No.8. That's two LEGO games in the Top Ten - and neither are based on existing movie or TV IP.

Elsewhere, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition debuts at No.23 and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits reaches No.36 (but no sign of its sister title Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls).

Retailer promotions boosts sales of both Overwatch (which returns to the Top Ten at No.10) and WWE 2K17, which rises to No.13 with a 105% jump in sales.
