Manufacturing senior managing director had spent 44 years with company

Nobuo Nagai, a Nintendo employee of 44 years and the Japanese company's manufacturing senior managing director, has died aged 66.

He had been fighting cancer, and Nikkei reports the funeral will be held tomorrow.

Nagai oversaw manufacturing of the company's consoles, after joining Nintendo in 1967. He was Nintendo's longest serving director.

Satoru Iwata recently spoke about Nagai's role in the development of the Nintendo 3DS.

"The first thing (Nobuo) Nagai-san10, who's in charge at the Uji plant, said to me when he looked over the designs for Nintendo 3DS before mass production began was 'This time it's fully packed right from the start.'"
