Nintendo wins lawsuit against unlicensed Mario Kart-themed tourist attraction

MariCar ordered to pay $89,000 in damages

Nintendo has won its lawsuit against MariCar, a Tokyo tourist attraction which offers Nintendo-themed go-karting experiences around the city.

As reported by Kotaku, MariCar -- known as MariMobility -- has been fined nearly $89,000 after a ruling in the Tokyo District Court found it violated Nintendo's intellectual property rights.

Nintendo filed the lawsuit in February last year, accusing the company of usings its characters without permission.

The attraction has reportedly been causing issues outside of intellectual property rights infringement, with multiple public damages and injuries resulting from tourists' karting gone awry.
