Nintendo offers dockless Switch in Japan
The reduced-price '2nd Unit Set' is being marketed to households that already own a Switch
In another step toward Nintendo's goal to have multiple Nintendo Switch systems per household, the Switch is now available in Japan sans a dock.
Known as the Switch 2nd Unit Set, the new SKU being marketed towards households that already have one Switch with a dock.
The 2nd Unit Set includes a Nintendo Switch system, two Joy-Con controllers, and two straps. Predictably, it does not include the dock, HDMI cable, or Joy-Con grip.
Oddly, it is also missing the AC adapter cable needed to charge a Nintendo Switch, meaning two-Switch households will either be fighting over the charger or will need to purchase one separately.
The set costs ¥24,980, or about $230. A normal Nintendo Switch bundle is $299.99.
Earlier this month, Nintendo took a different step toward promoting more than one Switch per household worldwide by offering the Nintendo Switch Online services in a family plan that allows for up to eight accounts to be linked across multiple systems. A twelve-month family membership is $34.99, while a single person membership is $12.99.
