Report: Nintendo of Japan staff receive average £11k bonus

Winter bonuses up despite losses reported for financial year

Nintendo of Japan's employees will be receiving an average bonus of ¥1.45 million (£11,000) this Winter, despite the company posting losses for the first time in seven years.

News site ZakZak reported the figures, which were then translated by 1Up. When combined with Summer bonuses, the average Nintendo of Japan employee will take home ¥3 million (£23,000) in bonuses this year.

Sales figures for the company's Wii and DS consoles dropped dramatically in October, with Nintendo posting a ¥2 billion loss for the six months leading up to September 30, 2010. Comparatively, the company posted a profit of ¥69.5 billion for that period in 2009.

However, Nintendo made clear that bonuses are paid according to individual performances, rather than company wide profits.
