Nintendo 3DS crosses 10 million units sold in Japan

The lifetime sales of Nintendo's portable reach a new milestone

Nintendo's 3DS has sold more than 10 million systems in Japan, according to Japanese publication Famitsu. The exact total came to 10,068,192 units as of January 2, 2013. The 3DS took 98 weeks to reach the milestone, versus the Nintendo DS Lite which only needed 61 weeks.

The previous numbers from Famitsu (via NeoGAF) showed the 3DS selling 266,790 units from December 24 to December 30. Famitsu attributes the current rise in 3DS sales to Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which was released on November 8 in Japan.
