Newzoo: Taiwanese gamers expected to spend $1.3 billion in 2018

With 14.5 million players, Taiwan is the world's 15th largest gaming market

Newzoo has released an infographic detailing the Taiwanese gaming market in 2018. Taiwan's 14.5 million players are expected to spend $1.3 billion in 2018, making it the world's 15th largest gaming market.

According to the survey, of gamers who pay for in-game items or virtual goods already, 78% have spent money on them in the last six months. 30% of women and 32% of men purchased some kind of power-up in a game.

Of all Taiwanese gamers, 99% of women and 98% of men play mobile games, while 60% of women and 72% of men play on console. 81% of women and 90% of men play PC games.

Online gaming content is popular to watch, with just over half (54%) of the online population viewing regularly and 49% watching on mobile devices. Esports is still struggling to gain traction, though. Of those who are aware of esports at all, only 12% watch esports content multiple times in a month, with League of Legends as the most popular esports game to watch.
