MTV: Rock Band lawsuit is "baseless"

Publisher will fight Konami over alleged patent infringement

MTV has said that it intends to "vigorously defend" Rock Band following Konami's efforts to sue the company for alleged patent infringement.

Last week, Konami issued a lawsuit to developer Harmonix, MTV Networks and parent company Viacom, claiming Rock Band infringes on Konami patents for a "musical-rhythm matching game."

"Konami's actions are extremely surprising," an MTV spokesperson said, reports MTV News.

"Unfortunately, successful products such as Rock Band can often become targets for baseless litigation. We have substantial defenses to this claim and intend to vigorously defend it."

Konami is currently working on a new entry in the music game genre – Rock Revolution, developed by the UKs Zoe Mode.
